Star Trek: Discovery Recap FREQCast on 01.03: Context Is for Kings

This week, the mysterious starship Discovery makes its debut on Star Trek: Discovery, along with Jason Isaacs (best known as Lucius Malfoy from the Harry Potter films) as Captain Gabriel Lorca, a figure who appears determined to win the war with the Klingons at any cost, and with no regard for any ethical concerns. It’s somewhat troubling territory for a Star Trek series to delve into, when part of what so many of us love about Trek is its strong ethical core and its depiction of a better future for humankind.

On this episode of our Star Trek: Discovery FREQcast, Anita and Ebony are horrified by the show’s further entrenchment into warmongering fantasy, but are delighted with Lt. Burnham’s steely, unconventional problem solving. Meanwhile, Ebony continues to be fascinated by Burnham’s hair.
